Digital Divide

I have used Twitter off and on for the past five years.  As a whole I enjoy Twitter for reading the news in sports and politics.  Information spreads very rapidly over the platform and it is an easy way to educate yourself on a topic or person rather quickly.  I usually interact with sports related platforms and some of my favorite celebrities.  I have found Twitter as a whole beneficial because of the different opinions and points of view you can read from.  Twitter will be helpful in my career when it comes to keeping up with current events and learning about news on money and the government.

The digital divide is one of the least talked about but most influential issue in the school system.  The digital divide has been more recently publicized due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the push to virtual platforms like Zoom.  The digital divide limits success for low income families that do not have the technological resources at home compared to those of higher income families.  This makes it much harder for lower income students to keep up with their classmates that have consistent wifi and internet access.
As a teacher the most important thing is making sure that every student is easily able to access all course material and information when need be.  Students that are unable to do this outside of school should have a way to anonymously contact administrators and myself and alternate ways of access will be provided.

I really like the platform canvas, I used in it high school and now in college.  I think as a whole its simple to use and most students will use it later in their academic careers also.  Canvas would be great for elementary school students because they can quickly pick up on how to use it and valuable tech skills will be gained.  I would also like to use Microsoft Powerpoint and Word.  These academic softwares will be used by students for the rest of their lives and I feel like there is no better time to start using them than in grade school.
